[Flux] Pavilion // Cambridge, ON

A public installation exploring the relationship between wind, fabric, and light.

Inspired by the flow of the Grand River, Flux Pavilion is composed of three structures that run along the water’s edge, each representing the three original communities Galt, Preston, and Hespeler that comprise the City of Cambridge. Illuminated, draping fabric ripples above as participants pass through the pavilion, imitating the Grand River’s water below, and reflecting the rich textile and fabric heritage of Cambridge. Visitors can walk through the pavilion and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the forming of the City of Cambridge in 1973 through the amalgamation of the three core communities. Flux Pavilion projects a wish for light to serve as a symbol of hope, peace, and community celebration by incorporating ideas from the growing presence of design, art and architecture within the current and future community fabric of Cambridge.

Installation for City of Cambridge’s Unsilent Night Event, 2023.
