Guelph City Hall Courtyard // Guelph, ON

Creating Shared Space for People and Plants.

The City of Guelph tasked us with renovating their underutilized courtyard, located in the center of city hall.
The courtyard was designed to invite users out to the space – for a calm and tranquil setting. The design uses a series of planters to create different types of outdoor working spaces for the city hall employees, while providing a place for the City of Guelph’s talented horticulture team to display their planting designs.

It was essential for us to work closely with the horticultural team at Guelph’s Parks Department to create a space that will allow for flexibility in their stunning planting displays seen all around the City of Guelph. Fixed planters feature different varieties of native and non-native plants, grown in the City of Guelph’s greenhouses. Through this collaboration with the horticulture team, we have been able to see different plantings as ways to create different spaces to work, collaborate, and rest within the courtyard.
